For this page, at least, it IS all about me.
The next generation, all bright and beautiful.

On the personal side, my life is rich with those I love - a husband from the northeast, with whom I argue about pronunciation of common words such as donkey (in his version it rhymes with monkey) and Maury (rhymes with hurry in my world, since that's how the people in Maury City pronounce it, but it rhymes with Morrie coming out of his mouth. Sigh.) Anyway, we have three children, two of which have produced five grandchildren (all healthy, happy and incredibly bright), and a roamer who is not yet married, but has traveled to over seventy countries.
Speaking of traveling, I've been to eight countries besides my own, and need only to see six more states to have them all covered In the U.S. I love visiting other places, but am quite attached to my home state of Tennessee. I was blessed to have loving parents that were wonderful role models for a strong work ethic. My father only finished fourth grade--where he was raised, that's all there was--and my mother had no college level formal education. It is a testament to their encouragement and expectations that their three children either have advanced degrees or are working on them (the latter would be me). While I hope to expand my volunteer time over the next few years, I do make fund-raising for cancer research a priority. Far too many of my friends and family members have been touched by this vile disease. For the past five years I have coordinated efforts to form a team of my high school classmates, co-workers and anyone else I can roust out of bed on a cold October morning. I'll be looking for additional opportunities. |
My life has been better than I could have imagined, and I appreciate my good fortune. I hope to be able to inspire others to embrace lifelong learning. My learning experiences have provided me with a broader view of the world, and a greater capacity to enjoy it more than I could have imagined. I'd like to pass it forward. |
